22-year old Kobe Bryant in the 2001 Playoffs (self.nba)
All of the teams were 50 win teams
Shaq probably deserved the finals MVP, but if there was a playoffs MVP like hockey kobe would have deserved it
第一轮：开拓者（50-32）/4.32 SRS/1568 ELO
"He's not just going up and down the court anymore, playing on talent," Popovich said. He's using his ability and playing wisely. He knows what time of the game it is, what the situation is and where his teammates are. That takes time to learn. In terms of development, he's really made a big leap."

With 93 points in consecutive games, Bryant was drawing a comparison with the greatest big-game player ever -- Michael Jordan.
“科比现在在场上不再仅仅只是飞天遁地的靠天赋打球了，”波波维奇说道。“他在使用自己的能力， 打得很伶俐。他知道比赛现在进行到什么程度了，球队现在的处境和队友们的状态如何。抵达这一切需要 时间去学习。至于先进这方面，科比真的发生了质的飞跃。”
They needed each other and wouldn't have won without the other. No point arguing with anyone on the extremes. All your data and facts will just be thrown out the window. Everyone who is actually reasonable is avoiding threads like these.

And not even mentioning a cool 37/7/7 against the Pop and TD Spurs nonetheless... They never really had an answer for him tbh

Wasn't the 15-1 run also the hardest Road by some uncommonly used metric?
"I never asked Michael to be a playmaker," Jackson said. That's the greatest player I ever had, that I could consider the greatest player in the game. Yet I never asked him to be a playmaker in those terms. I asked him to be a playmaker when he was doubled or tripled. Kobe has to set up the offense, read the defense, make others happy and he's doing a great job of it. Kobe has become the floor leader on a basketball team that was looking for that player who can not only be a scorer, but also be a playmaker who can consistently make big plays at critical times. It was very important for Kobe to step into that role he was envisioned at."
"I can't believe how much better Kobe is, scoring, defensively, giving us open shots," Derek Fisher said.We all feed off him."
Kobe: 35-9-4 (59% TS) + 1 SPG + 1 BPG / 120 ORTG / 104 DRTG

O'Neal said it wasn't the points but the way Bryant scored them that was so impressive.

In the playoffs, O'Neal is averaging 34.0 points at home and 23.6 points on the road. The discrepancy would be of greater concern if Bryant weren't so up for the challenge of the road. It's one other department in which Bryant can handle whatever chores Shaq leaves unfinished. Kobe is averaging 28.2 points at home and 35.8 on the road.
Yea that sucks. I just wish Kobe got one finals MVP in that three peat. He was annoyed and tried to get it against pistons but that didn't work out
Agreed. Everyone who was around at the time knew that after the first ring, Kobe was pretty much 1B to Shaq's 1A -- both were undoubtedly top five players in the league. Neither player gotcarried". It was really all about match-ups. Kobe would dominate the Western Conference and Shaq would dominate the Finals in large part because big men in the East were terrible at the time. But when people see Shaq's 3 Finals MVPs, they immediately discredit Kobe's playoff efforts which is a damn shame.
I made this same argument not too long ago, Shaq may have been the best player in the league but kobe was the best player in the 2001 playoffs

He's what basically was the game changer causing the sweep. Duncan could come close to Shaq, but Spurs had no one like Kobe at all. Shaq was the better player, and IF you had to say someone was doing the carrying it would be Shaq, not Kobe, but really there was no carrying being done. Kobe was a motherfucker.

Kobe is basically the reason why the Spurs got Bowen.
Did you hear what Gregg Popovich said after Bryant and the Lakers used Pop's Spurs to mop the courts at the Alamodome and Staples Center in the Western Conference Finals?

"When he took over, it's what Michael always used to do," said Spurs reserve and ex-Bull Steve Kerr.A team would start to come back and make a run, especially in their home building, and their fans would get behind them, and all of a sudden -- bam! -- he just sucks the air out of the place. That's what Kobe was doing."
You know I'll always upvote Kobe posts
35.8 ppg on the road at 22 years old is insane
“当科比接管比赛时，就和乔丹已经做的一模一样，”来自马刺和前公牛球员史蒂夫-科尔。“敌手总会 开头反击并打出一波热潮，特别是在他们的主场，然后球迷们就会站在他们的身后撑腰他们，然而忽然 一瞬间——Bang！——科比就仿佛抽干了球馆里一切的气氛一样，全场忽然安宁下来。这就是科比所做 的事情。”
He basically didn't win finals MVP because Shaq had disproportionate advantages against the East teams in every finals. If you look at the stats of the match-ups leading to the finals, you'd prob give the slight edge to Kobe being the MVP

Horace Grant kept referring to Bryant asNo. 23," the number Jordan wore. It wasn't a mistake.
"That's where I've been trying to get him all year," O'Neal said. He's been getting his points, getting everybody involved, drawing and kicking, doing the right things. Somebody once said the mark of a great player is how you make the other players around you play. I now can truly say that Kobe Bryant is the best player in this league."

I just want to say, I hated Kobe growing up. His team dominated teams that were fun to watch and he puts up spectacular stats in amazing style. I hated him because he wasn't on a team that I liked, and everyone on the court was idolizing Kobe and A.I growing up. But as I grew up and watched Kobe at his peak, as he went on an absolute tear to devastate my Nash-led Suns team in the WCF, I appreciated his greatness. He is a truly amazing player that was so hard to guard. I rooted against him, I wanted him to lose in the finals against the Magic and Celtics--but it never happened. Kobe impressed me, then I started hearing about his work ethics and how he carries himself mentally and physically--the work he puts himself through to be at the top of the game. Really respectable. Wish he didn't go down the way he did because man, might've hurt his legacy to the younger eyes in this forum.
"I've always held the bar up very high for Kobe and he's not only reached that bar, but he's jumping over the top of it right now," Phil Jackson said. It's the best that I've seen a player of mine play with an overall court game."

Jesus Christ and they were all healthy, weren't they?
Shaq's ability to just straight dominate any game/player combined with Kobe's ability to take the wind out of any team's sails and take over momentum. It's definitely the most dynamic duo to ever play.

The 2001 Lakers are the best team I've seen
There's a small minority that think Kobe was the best player on that team. There's a larger but still small minority that think Shaq won the threepeat all alone and Kobe was a role player and dead weight. The majority I would say think that they were the most dynamic 1-2 punch in the league perhaps ever.
